Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

One of the most popular services that our drug rehab centers in North Texas offer are intensive outpatient programs. We pride ourselves on having an intensive outpatient program that was developed to provide a comprehensive, concentrated, and empathetic environment. Our program was created to give patients the tools that they need to be reintroduced into society and endure any temptations that may occur when they leave the facility. Our varied team includes psychologists, nurses, and mental health counselors, giving patients a well-rounded approach to drug addiction treatment. What Is an IOP Program?

An intensive outpatient program, or IOP, is a structured program used in drug and alcohol rehab centers in Texas where patients undergo treatments that address any underlying issues that could be causing their drug addiction or mental health issues. With our intensive outpatient program, patients can participate in daily affairs like work and school while also receiving the assistance of our professionals. IOPs are recommended for people that do not require medical supervision, detoxification, or round-the-clock supervision.

While an IOP is fairly structured, it’s flexible enough that patients are able to fit it into their schedules. They may have to work different hours, but they can work if they choose to do so. They can still spend time with friends and family members.

This makes an IOP far more accessible than inpatient treatment. It’s far easier to spare a few hours per day than it is to spare months at a time.

A Supportive Team of Mental Health Providers

Recovering from an addiction or other mental health problem is challenging enough with people to help you. It’s far more difficult alone.

When someone chooses an IOP, they’re choosing to get a team of mental health providers on their side. Each team member will work together with the patient to help them heal.

Of course, standard outpatient care also connects patients with mental health providers, but generally only one-on-one. With multiple providers working together, the patient may be able to heal more effectively.

A Built-in Support Network

Support is essential when it comes to recovering from an addiction or mental health condition. When someone decides to try an intensive outpatient program, they’re also choosing to insert themselves into a support group of other people battling the same conditions.

Knowing that there are other people who understand what you’re going through can be game-changing. You may end up keeping some of those connections long-term which can help with long-term recovery.

Quick Access to 12-Step Programs and Other Resources

When treatment is “over,” patients will likely still need help, at least from time to time. Intensive outpatient programs often provide post-treatment resources to set their patients on the right paths.

Some programs connect patients with external therapists, support groups, and even 12-step programs. This way, patients are able to find support and help right after treatment is over. Finding adequate mental health help is challenging, so this takes some of the effort out of it.

Many of these programs also help patients build life skills while they’re still participating. Important relationship and vocational skills will help patients return to “real life” when they’re ready to finish treatment.

Access to External Support

When you’re going through recovery for an addiction or mental health treatment, it can be helpful to have the support of your friends and family members. Spending time with loved ones makes treatment easier so long as those loved ones do not enable the patient.

When a patient is doing inpatient treatment, they lose access to their external support systems temporarily. This is a reasonable tradeoff, but it’s not something that everyone wants. If your loved ones are involved in your recovery, you should be able to keep them nearby.

Because an IOP lets you go home every day, you can still spend time with the people you care about.

Generally More Affordable Than Residential Treatment

Often, people never choose to seek treatment because they think it’s financially out of range. In many cases, especially with residential treatment, that’s true. Residential mental health and addiction treatment is expensive.

Intensive outpatient programs are generally more affordable. If you choose an IOP near Dallas, you’ll be spending less money than if you chose a residential treatment in the same area.

Luckily, many insurance plans now cover mental health services (including intensive outpatient programs).

How Long Does an Intensive Outpatient Program Last?

Before you start looking into “IOP treatment near me,” you may want to know how much time you’ll need to devote to treatment. In short, it depends.

On a small scale, intensive outpatient programs last for several hours per day (sometimes up to ten, but this will depend on the specific intensive outpatient program you choose. It’s more common for intensive outpatient programs to run for two to five hours).

They take place several days per week. You can expect to attend your intensive outpatient program three to five days per week. Again, this will depend on your unique program and the treatment plan that’s created for you.

But how many weeks will you be there?

Generally speaking, you can expect to be in an intensive outpatient program for anywhere between eight and twelve weeks depending on your treatment plan and the program you choose. This may seem like a long time, but it will fly by, and it’s only a short time commitment for a complete life change.

If you’re unsure if you’re able to devote enough time to an intensive outpatient program, reach out and discuss your time constraints with the rehabilitation facility to learn about your options.

Will Insurance Cover an IOP?

In most cases, insurance will provide coverage for an intensive outpatient program. Before you start, you can make sure that your insurance is accepted. No one should have to put themselves in financial distress in order to receive mental health care.
