At Sunshine Care Centers, we designed our treatment modalities to help with more than just the disorder; we provide the building blocks for improving one’s mental health and well-being. Our specially crafted treatment plans support situations as unique as our patients. Our staff is able and eager to meet a patient’s every need while keeping the patient empowered in their recovery. The following are treatment options that we currently offer at Sunshine Care Centers.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy focused on identifying harmful thought patterns, beliefs, or behaviors that have led to the patient’s underlying issues regarding mental health struggles or drug and alcohol abuse.
CBT is a goal-focused, short-term form of psychotherapy that has been proven to be extremely helpful in supporting patients through painful experiences.
CBT is focused on understanding the relationship between our thoughts and behaviors while identifying images or experiences that trigger a reaction. Our therapists work with patients to develop new strategies to implement healthy behaviors and thought processes.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has evidence-based success for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction in achieving long-term sobriety.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is the natural progression in modalities after CBT. DBT takes a deeper look into how we react to certain situations, relationships, and environmental factors.
While CBT helps to identify these harmful thought patterns and behaviors, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy assists in overcoming them.
DBT teaches patients healthy coping mechanisms to encourage lasting sobriety and relief from mental health trauma.
DBT has four main areas of focus:
Trauma therapy is talk therapy designed to manage traumatic events’ impact on patients’ lives. Trauma therapy creates a safe space of support and compassion to assist people as they navigate their traumatic events and learn to integrate and overcome the pain.
A traumatic event is defined as any experience that is life-threatening, abusive, frightening, or dangerous. Additionally, an individual can be traumatized as a bystander observing catastrophic events. Trauma is complex and can significantly impact the victim’s psychological and emotional functioning. Trauma therapy can resolve those issues.
Unfortunately, most people will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives. While many will suffer in silence, there is hope when one reaches out for help. At Sunshine Care Centers, we offer several programs that help you or your loved ones process traumatic memories and move forward to live a happier and healthier life.
Music therapy is a proven therapeutic practice that is utilized to help address a patient’s cognitive, emotional, physical, and social needs. It is used to great success in assisting in long-term recovery. The collaboration of a music therapist with the rest of a patient’s treatment team helps assess the strengths and struggles of the individual, allowing for a more robust care plan.
Music therapy encourages patients to be creative, productive, and imaginative. Such a program will provide patients with improved self-esteem, motivation, and self-worth, which are often damaged and lost during the battle with addiction.
By participating in music therapy, you will reestablish confidence and possibly come across an unforeseen talent that can support you in long-term recovery.
Some benefits of Music Therapy include:
Our staff has over 30 years of experience in evidence-based treatment. This treatment is a blanket program that includes a number of our other therapy services, such as CBT and DBT. Evidence-based treatment modalities are the most rigorously researched and tested group of therapies in the market. The Five A’s represent the foundational structure upon which these therapies are based.
The Five A’s are:
- “ASK” the clinical question that applies to the client.
- “ACQUIRE” the most relevant and best evidence to answer the question.
- “APPRAISE” the evidence for validity, relevance, and applicability.
- “APPLY” the evidence, along with critical expertise, while keeping in mind the client’s preferences and values.
- “ASSESS” the effectiveness and efficiency of the previous four steps, then seek ways to improve the process.
Active Duty & Veterans Programs
At Sunshine Care Centers, we hold our country's heroes with the highest regard and offer treatment programs catering to their particular set of needs. Unfortunately, many military members in the line of service suffer from physical injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Alcohol and prescription drug abuse is continually rising among veterans and active military personnel. After extended use, these brave men and women may build a tolerance and become physically dependent on these substances.
At Sunshine Care Centers, we offer only the finest therapies and support with our active duty and veterans program. We are here to serve those who served us and support them to a safe recovery. The medical staff at Sunshine Care Centers works hard to treat conditions specific to our honored service members, preventing long-term psychological disorders. We offer trauma therapy for those who experienced combat trauma or brain injuries.

Once a week, clients will participate in sober activities where they can learn to apply what they are learning in a social setting and how to engage and be social without using substances. Clients will also receive lunch where they can enjoy healthy meals and socialize in a safe and caring environment.
